Current Employment
British Council China, TET 2014-2015
Since September last year I have been working full time as an English language and History Teacher at Hebei International School in Shijiazhuang. I have taught written and oral English classes to junior students aged thirteen, and world History classes to senior students aged 16, with class sizes ranging from fifteen to fifty. As well as this, I wrote, administered and scored midterm and end of year examinations for both class years, which included multiple choice listening tests for English classes and essay questions for History. Alongside this I took part in peer reviewed lessons, which allowed foreign Teachers to analyse one another and offer helpful criticism for potential improvements. Finally I took part in the schools English corner program designed to improve conversational skills for selected senior students, intending to study abroad after finishing school. Overall my time at Hebei International School has given me a strong understanding and knowledge over how to teach and educate students in China, in both lower and higher education.
Previous Employment
British Council Thailand, TET 2013 July-September.
From July to September 2013, I was an English Teacher at Bangpakok Wittayakom School in Bangkok, teaching students between the ages of 11-18. This required a high level of professionalism, as well as an ability to adapt and work in an alien environment. Each week I taught and observed a different class year in the school, which offered me the chance to take part in multiple teaching styles, as well as teaching me the importance of having to adapt to varying class ability. To summarise, this program gave me my first experience teaching English as a foreign language abroad, encouraging me to later apply for a similar full time position in China.
